Now that we have all gone out and bought all that oatmeal, what are we going to do with it? Ah, never fail there is always something that can be made with oatmeal and not just eating it for breakfast.
First thing that came to mind was:
Banana Oat Smoothie
1/4 cup old fashioned rolled oats
1/2 cup plain low fat yogurt – I use vanilla
1 banana – I prefer frozen
1/2 cup fat free milk
2 tsp. honey
1/4 tps. cinnamon
Blend in a blender and serve. Makes 1 serving.
I like this recipe because it uses all that Oatmeal we bought, but also when I have bananas that have gone over the hill and I don’t have time to make banana bread, I peel and freeze them and they are great in smoothies.
My other favorite to do with all this Oatmeal is a recipe I got from my friend.
I usually leave out the fruit or at least cut back and I make parfaits out of this granola. Another trick that I learned if you don’t have the time to watch the oven is turn it on high, like 400, stir it after 15 minutes then turn the oven off. You can even do this over night. Next morning….granola.

With the economy the way it is, it seems like everyone is cutting back and trying hard not to spend money aimlessly on things. I think this is great. This is something that many people have needed to do for years now. But with so many blogs out there filled with all types of money saving tips, which I too will share, there comes a point where you feel guilty buying something that you truly want or enjoy, but you need to know, it's ok to splurge every now and then.
