I told my friend the other day I had gotten a Dutch Oven for my birthday, she asked me why I needed one since I already had a Crockpot. I just looked at her kind of confused and said, “I don’t know, I guess I just really wanted one”
I mean why wouldn’t I want one. When you read a recipe that calls for Dutch Oven the last thing you want to do is put it in a skillet and throw it in the oven. I mean seriously if Martha (you know Martha Stewart) showed up at my house, she would be appalled. I would hang my head in shame. So, you know, it’s a risk I wasn’t willing to take.
When my birthday approached last month I asked my husband for a Dutch Oven. Ok, disclaimer here….my husband says he never reads my blog, so let’s hope that is the case. First off, I wasn’t exactly sure what a Dutch Oven was, I only knew I wanted it in Burnt Orange or Red. That’s an expensive kitchen decoration. Second, I had no idea how much they were until I saw the bill. Oops!
But I was super excited when it came and I got to hold it. Then, because of our crazy busy schedule, it sat as a beautiful decoration on my stove top for nearly a month.
Finally one day I decided I was going to use it no matter what. I picked up some Beef chuck Roast and quickly seared the meat…ok, let me stop you here.
This thing is amazing,
I had no idea.
I love this thing called a Dutch Oven.
It heated up so quickly and seared the meat so evenly.
I’m not making this up.
Anyways, I then added some beef broth and threw the whole thing in the oven for 1 hour. This was nice because I really didn’t have time to crank up the crockpot.
The meat was so incredibly tender. I did nothing special to the meat, I just knew instantly that this was my new best friend. I shredded the meat and made french dip sandwiches.
Tonight I tried Pork Chops in a white wine sauce. Again, complete success and done in half the time of a crockpot. Plus you can sear it in the same pan you put in the oven. Less dishes, I am all about less dishes.
The next thing I am going to make in this is Smoky Pork Pappardelle.
This is more than Things I love Thursday, this is things I LOVE! And this is definitely a ‘Money 4 This’ product.

With the economy the way it is, it seems like everyone is cutting back and trying hard not to spend money aimlessly on things. I think this is great. This is something that many people have needed to do for years now. But with so many blogs out there filled with all types of money saving tips, which I too will share, there comes a point where you feel guilty buying something that you truly want or enjoy, but you need to know, it's ok to splurge every now and then.
