Tuesday Tips – Tween Birthday Gifts

If you have spent any time on my site you know I am big into couponing.  But you also need to know I am big into getting any good deal, with or without a coupon.

I have decided to start a Tuesdays Tips where I will share a money saving tip that has nothing to do with coupons.

I have officially come out of the Tween stage at my house, but this was one of my favorite gift giving times.  Let me first back up and say, birthday parties and presents always stress me out.  Everyone now gives $20 gift cards, and I am not willing to spend quite that much.  I have a $10-$15 range that I am willing to spend, so I have gotten creative.   Often times I barely spent the $10, but no one would ever have guessed.

First off you have to buy a gift bag or gift wrap, so I have started watching for backpacks, cinch bags, purses or whatever to go on clearance at Target.  If you watch you can get any of these listed items for $3 or less sometimes.

Once I have my “gift bag” I find something inexpensive to fill it.  Sometimes I theme it with whatever my bag is and other times I just find other things that are super cheap.  This deal that was running a few weeks back is something I would set aside for future birthday gifts.  Just last week I saw a makeup bag that was $29.99 on clearance for $6.74 and there was a ton of makeup on Clearance as well.  I don’t need things like this so much, so I didn’t get it, but I could have put together a pretty cool kit for just over $10.

I always take whatever bag I use and leave it open and add tissue paper to make it look like a gift bag. It’s always a hit.

What do you do for Tween birthday presents?

  1. I haven’t given many tween gifts, but these are great ideas! I love putting together baskets/boxes etc. of gifts. It always seems like you’re giving more.

  2. Since my daughter and husband use ipods exclusively we usually make a cd of songs that we think fit the person. her friends love it-especially since they like oldie songs.I also reuse gift bags and will go to the dollar store and buy candy to fit in it as well.

  3. That’s a great idea!! Especially for the music lovers.

I have been making “movie baskets” for my daughters birthday invites. I find a $1 container at the Dollar Store and buy a $5 Blockbuster gift card and then fill it with “snacks” for movies. Great way to use microwave popcorn, cheap snacks and candies that I have picked up for cheap or FREE. The kids love this!

  5. That is a great idea. Love it!!
