When the sun is shining in Portland, there is no place I would rather be. Yesterday was no exception. You have to see what was happening in my city yesterday.
A few weeks back I had mentioned this great event going on. The best part was if you prepaid it was $15 each or $20 at the door. I love burgers and the thought of sampling and voting for the best burger was enough to make me want to go. But throw in the beer sampling and there was no way I was going to miss it.
This event was offered through Portland Monthly, a great magazine that I just subscribed to through Groupon. I hope some others were able to get in on the deal. This was the first time they ever did this event and they partnered with Whole Foods.
They closed off a city block, brought in the vendors and provided some music. You can tell that this first time event was well attended.
When you first walk in you are given 2 cards. One is the Voting Card for the best burger. We loved the Portebella Mushroom Burger from Laurelwood Brewery. The people next to us got full and never went to claim that burger, so they gave us their card and we had a second one. We were full, but it was that good!! Their beer was good as well. They were sampling 3 kinds.
Here is a list of all the Breweries that were giving out samples. There were all sizes of samples as well. One brewery was pouring half bottles for your sample. Others like, Widmer, was giving these small samples, but sampling 3 different kinds.
Check out these little beauties. Most “samples” were a large slider and one was rather large. We did not go hungry.
Check out this burger. There is nothing small about this guy. This my friends was the winner of the best burger.
Good food and good friends. That is the best way to spend my afternoon.
It didn’t just stop with food and drinks. We also got all the free chips we wanted, so I brought home extra bags for the kids. We got some really nice beer glasses from Henry’s. We also got a reusable bag to carry all our goodies home in. Oh and the last thing was the current Portland Monthly magazine, which I had not yet received and it was full of coupons from restaurants all over Portland.
At $15 a person it was definitely worth our money. So let’s go ahead and make this a Money4This event. I hope they bring it back again next year!!
What did you do this weekend?
