Are banks and credit card companies ripping you off? Are they taking your money when they shouldn’t be? You are the only one watching out for you.
I do all my payments online so I am never late. I watch my register like a hawk, so I know where we are at all times.
BUT, every once and awhile something will slip past me or better yet (and this happened) I reversed numbers, and ended up paying too little and I was hit with a fee.
- First thing you need to do is call RIGHT AWAY.
- Explain the situation and ask for a resolution.
- Not just any resolution, but ask that the fee be removed.
- If you have a clean record and are courteous, chances are they will remove the fee.
It goes beyond that, watch your statements daily, weekly, but not monthly. Why not monthly? Too much time has passed and you might not know what it is and blow it off, giving someone else your money.
When you watch them daily or weekly, you will notice weird charges that you can address right away. We have had bank charges that were errors. Some people blow off the $10 error, not me, I don’t want them to have my $10. And how often have you missed that and now how much of your money do they have?
While you are watching that, also keep an eye out for wait staff that give themselves extra tips. Returns that never get credited back to your account, the list goes on. Watch things daily or weekly.
If you are really, truly and honestly trying to watch every penny you spend and be a wise steward of your money, these are things you should be doing on a regular basis.
If you aren’t, don’t complain to me that you don’t have any money. you should be.
