Oregon Coast and Beer, what’s not to love?

You know me, I love a splurge every now and then. If you have followed me long you can pretty much guess that my splurge will be about food.

There is nothing I love more than a good meal out, with quality food, good portions and great service. We have found that perfect place for breakfast in Salem at Word of Mouth.

I have to say I am so glad it’s not close by because I would be there way too much and probably couldn’t find enough time to workout and to work it off.

We have been to Word of Mouth 3 times now. Well, my husband has been lots more than me because he works from Salem a few days a week. But I have been there 3 times. I love that the quality of food is a high priority for these owners. Just yesterday she picked over 300 lbs of fresh heirloom tomatoes to use in her winter soups.

I love that the Eggs Benedict’s come with 3 eggs. Not that I need 3 eggs, but WOW! And for just $10.50 you can’t beat it. This meal can be easily shared, although I don’t share. If you have never had Creme Brulee French toast, you need to make your way to down to try it out.

We took my in laws today. They like their Biscuits and Gravy, so my father in Law tried the Incredible Flying Biscuit, which is a breakfast tower of buttermilk fried chicken, egg, cheddar cheese, and bacon on a homemade buttermilk biscuit graced with country gravy and served with a side of potatoes.

Plus I just love supporting the locals instead of the chain restaurants. For me, that’s a Money4This expense.

This is such a fun, new place in Portland. There are plenty of shops to check out while you are in the Pearl.

You have heard me say over and over I love eating food and eating out. I also love having time alone with my man. Well, this is a great destination that won’t break the bank.

It’s kind of the In-n-Out of Oregon. The menu is very limited and the burgers are great. And since it is the great NW you will also notice that the fries are made with truffle oil, because, why not? Want to read more about this great burger joint?

What is your cheap but great go to place so you can get out, eat and enjoy some time with your someone special?  I also love to travel, so I am always looking for places to eat in other cities.

Another way I try to eat on a budget is watch Groupon and Living Social for good food deals.

There are 2 great deals out there that I want to make sure everyone sees. First off Redbox is offering 3 movies for $1. This offer is through Groupon. It still has 2 more days on it, so take advantage of this one. I might just buy more than one, since you can buy them as gifts.

The other deal I saw today in the Portland area is through Mobba and it’s $15 for $30 worth of food at Bastas Trattoria. I checked out the menu and this place looks so good. This offer will get you a free entree for sure as entree’s run $10-$20 a plate.

I am always looking for ways to eat good food at a fraction of the price. I also like to eat at local restaurants, with local food. This place is all about that. So yes, I will support them.

I don’t eat at chain restaurants, because I just can’t tolerate them and I don’t eat fast food because it’s just gross.  BUT what I do eat is Mexican fast food chains.  I know, weird, but it’s one thing I will tolerate and do like. Sometimes you need that quick, easy, cheap meal. Plus I like that you can find Baja Fresh coupons and deals like this. Now if Chipotle would just do the same.

Baja Fresh never disappoints and with today’s Sharing Spree it will make the deal even sweeter. Today you can purchase $15 worth of food for just $7.50.

I haven’t shared many of these lately, because not many have caught my attention. But this one I like and it’s a great deal.

I have been watching Tippr for awhile and waiting for it to come to Portland.  Finally the time has come.  They are offering a great deal.  If you sign up today you can instantly get $5 in your account.  You don’t even need to buy anything right away, but when you do you will already get $5 off.

So what are you waiting for?  It doesn’t cost you anything, then you just sit and wait for that amazing deal you can’t pass up and believe me it will come.  Who doesn’t like a discount on food, spas, entertainment and more?

Since I am on vacation this week I am pulling out an archive.  With Christmas right around the corner and with my little reminder yesterday, I thought I should just bring back the whole thing.

When we were super poor I used to walk the aisles of Target looking for clearance items.  I could get new things for a fraction of the price for my family.  It really was the only way I could afford to shop and I honestly didn’t mind it.  Even in those times and even when I would find something for 94¢ I had to ask myself, do I really need it?

It’s not a good buy if you don’t need it.

We all know that, but we all get suckered into the great deal and we do have a hard time letting a good deal pass us by.  I have found my newest temptation.  Well actually there are more than just one.  Groupon, Living Social,  and Restaurant.com just to name a few.  They all come at you…everyday…with great offers.  It’s hard to think sometimes.

I will not lie, I LOVE these sites.  I love that they offer local restaurants with discounts now, where before it was only the chain restaurants that did that.  I love that they offer discounts on activities that you didn’t even know existed in your own town.  I love that I can watch them for a few weeks or months before going on a trip and find things to do at your vacation destination.

Most of all I love saving money on these things.  Things that I didn’t even know existed.  Things that I would have never spent money on.  Things that will probably cost me more later than…..Wait!  What just happened?  I just got suckered into something didn’t I?

With all these new avenues for saving I guess we just need to be ready to have some self control. My friend sent me an email saying she just couldn’t stop buying the deals, and I know what she has been buying… it’s true, they ARE great deals.

So let’s come up with a few steps for Self Control over these great discount sites:

1.  Look at the deal and see what all it includes.

2.  See how much you need to spend.  Some $25 GC require you to spend $35-$50.

3.  Go to the website and see if you like the menu, if it’s a restaurant.

4.  Check out the time allowed and see if you can realistically work it into your schedule.  We just bought one that was a Saturday afternoon only.  Not only will be need to book it ahead, but probably soon.

5.  Ask a friend if they would like to join you.  Just seeing if someone else thinks its a good deal, let’s you know if it really is.

6. Can you go to the restaurant or attend this activity before it expires?

7.  If you don’t use it, how much will you be out?

8.  If you do use it how much additional will it cost you?  Tips, tax and additional spending.

9.  Do you have the money for it?

10.  Once you have done all the research and are really sure, then press the “buy” button and ENJOY what you purchased.

I will continue to show off great deals when these sites offer them.  I just got Portland Monthly for $8 for a year.  Why would I want anyone to miss that? But if it’s not for you, DON’T BUY IT.
