Tuesday’s Tip – Know When to Buy

Oh Shoot!  Yesterday we were traveling and I forgot it was Tuesday, so here is your Tuesday Tip on Wednesday.

If you have spent any time on my site you know I am big into couponing.  But you also need to know I am big into getting any good deal, with or without a coupon.

I have decided to start a Tuesdays Tips where I will share a money saving tip that has nothing to do with coupons.

I call this money saving tip “pulling a Warren”.  I have actually done this many times myself, but not to the extent my best friends dad did.  I actually was doing it before I realized he was doing it, but he marked everything.  Loved that man!!

Mark the date on your containers of when you buy them, that way you will know how long they last and you will also know when you need to be stocking up again.

I have done this often with Dish Washer Soap.  I buy it in big containers at Costco when they have the B1G1 FREE and I learned long ago from a repair man that we only need to use half as a full is too much and can cause problems.  Marking these containers lets me know when I need to chase down another sale or if I can take that week off.

That way you don’t buy when it’s a good price, you buy when it’s a great price, then when the next SUPER sale comes up you don’t have to waste gas getting there or buying the coupons because you know you are good for 6 months or a year.  Here are some of the things I mark:

Dish Soap
Laundry Detergent
Bleach
Toilet Paper
Paper Towels

Does anyone else do this?  If so what kinds of things do you mark?

  1. This is a great tip! I’ve never done this with the intent of knowing when to stock up. I had always heard to do it for expiration dates, so I do it for my spices that I buy in bulk. I will be trying this. Thanks for linking up. Sorry I didn’t see it until today!

  2. I just started doing this about 2 months ago. It’s a great idea and works very well! Now instead of wonderign when I need to buy or start looking, I know! Thanks for sharing!
