Frugal and Fit

I love to work out, or I should currently phrase it, I loved to work out.  I can’t wait to get back to that lifestyle.  I had a membership at the only club in town, well it was when I joined.  It was a super nice club, and once I am physically able I will go back.

This club was an old Costco building, so it has 5 basketball courts, 2 workout rooms, 1 cycle room, tons of space for all kinds of treadmills, stair climbers and such, plus a weight room.  Oh wait.  There is also 6-8 racquetball courts and 2 pools.

Needless to say the membership was not super cheap when I joined, and has climbed since I have been there. BUT I had made so many friends and we did classes together, so the community was amazing and working out became my social hour.

Still the price was so high that I made sure I went at least 4 times a week, I used their shampoo/conditioner.  They also provide hairspray, deodorant, lotion and other essentials.  They even included towel service.

Because this club is so expensive I kicked my husband off the membership because he wouldn’t show up.  When he did show up he would just do the treadmill.  I told him to come more often and find something you enjoy with people you enjoy and it won’t be a chore.  Instead he finally just left the club.

About 8 months ago he decided to join a gym again.  He looked online at the prices of the gyms and decided to join one, sight unseen.  He joined it because it was the cheapest one around.  It was awful!!  Completely dirty, the equipment was not working properly and the showers were gross.

It does go to show you that it’s not all about getting the best price.  If it costs more you might be more willing to be there because it’s a better facility.  Well lesson learned there.  I immediately told him he needed to write a post on his experience, and tell why a gym membership is a  Money4This item.  He never did, so I am doing it for him.

I want to hear your thoughts on this subject.  Is a gym membership something worth spending money on or do you have a much better solution?

Check back in a few weeks as we are looking at another option for our fitness needs and we will look at prices of it as well.
