Tuesday’s Tip – Old Magazines Get a New Life

What’s your first thought when you read the post title?  You are probably thinking I should share my magazines with others so we all get benefits out of them.  Well, that is a great idea, but that is not at all what I am talking about.

One of my favorite things is food.  Because of that I have Rachel Ray’s magazine, Everyday Food, Bon Appetite and Food and Wine Magazine.

One thing that every food magazine does is have recipes of food that is in season.  You will see the same things every year like, simple and summer and comfort and winter.  Every year they repeat themselves.

I take my favorite subscriptions and I put them on my book shelves in magazine holders.

Just today I decided to dig through some that I hadn’t looked at in a while.  I was pleased to see one was for October and it’s from 4 years ago.  Same season, same great food still being eaten today.

The same can go for gardening magazines.  They might have special articles, but in the end every month they have “what to do in the garden this month”.  Why buy the same information every year when you can just store 12 copies and have the same great information at your finger tips for FREE the following year and years to come.

Some magazines just have to many topics in them to really justify saving them for longer periods.  Those are the ones you take the articles you want and put those in a binder and toss or share the magazine with a friend.

Now if you will excuse I also found a Better Homes and Garden from October ’07 with articles that I highlighted.

  1. One thing I have been doing lately is taking great articles that I find on the internet and printing them out. I then take a hole punch and slide them into a 3 ring binder. You could probably do the same thing with your favorite magazine. Rip the page out and with a hole punch slide them into a page protector and then off they go into a three ring binder.

I love your Tuesday Tip!! Thank for participating in the Tuesday Tip Jar over on Blog Mommas. You got me thinking about another aspect of de-cluttering my home.

  2. Angela I agree, now I need to figure out that system. That’s great for both food and gardening tips and ideas.
