Tuesday’s Tip – Save on Museums

The holidays are coming and with family coming into town, this is a reminder for you.

Next time you decided to go to a museum or a local destination, check your library for FREE passes.  Right here in Portland we have lots of free passes we can use.  You need to go in ahead of time and “check them out” for the date you want, then just make sure you get them back in a timely fashion so you don’t pay a fee.

Usually you can get 2-4 people in on a pass, depending on the attraction.

We saw the Pittock Mansion for FREE using the library passes.

  1. Thank you for this post! I’d love to go back and see the Pittock Mansion again – how do you find out about the passes, or who do you see at the library?

  2. All you need to do is go up to customer service and ask them for a list of all the attractions they have passes for. You will have to schedule it out, unless they just so happen to have one in and no one is waiting for it.
There is a fee if you are late, which is nice if you are the next person in line hoping to use it. This pretty much guarantees you will have it when you want it.
Also if you cancel at the last minute they charge you. Sounds crazy, but they don’t want people reserving them and not picking them up.

  3. I will have to look into this. Thanks for linking up!

  4. Amy: I checked on this today at our Multnomah County library branch, and the only tickets they have are for the Children’s Museum. For other places around the area, you have to go through the Washington County Library, but if you have a MultCo library card you can get a Washington County card with no problem.

Apparently the passes were purchased by the Friends of the Washington County Library; Multnomah County Library is just too big for this kind of program.

  5. Laura good information. I guess you will have to make your way over to the West side. 🙂
